Groundhog Shadow Ceremony February 2
Official Groundhog Day Shadow Ceremony
Time: 12:00pm – 12:30pm
Our resident groundhog Chesapeake Chuck will make his sixth annual appearance to determine if Hampton Roads will experience six more weeks of winter… or have an early spring! Will Chesapeake Chuck see his shadow?
Join us for the day and stop by the outdoor amphitheater for our official ceremony beginning promptly at noon. WAVY TV 10 Meteorologist, Jeremy Wheeler will once again join us and will assist our prognosticating groundhog, Chesapeake Chuck to determine our future weather.
Chesapeake Chuck has been predicting since 2011. Last year was the first time he did not see his shadow, predicting an early spring.
“He’s the Cinderfella of the woodchuck world,” said Curatorial Director George Mathews. “He’s our own Cinderella for March madness – a small town groundhog at a small event, but a pretty good predictor.”
Chesapeake Chuck prepares for his prognosticating duties with special exercise and diet – particularly corn on the cob.
Forget Punxsutawney Phil… he has nothing on Hampton Roads own Chesapeake Chuck! See you on Groundhog Day February 2.
Cost: Included in Museum admission.
