13 | Peninsula Glass Guild 27th Annual Juried Exhibition (December 13-January 25, 2015)

Peninsula Glass Guild 27th Annual Juried Exhibition (December 13-January 25, 2015)This 27th annual juried exhibition presents the many forms of glass created by members of the Peninsula Glass Guild. The PGG, established in 1986 to promote quality art glass in the community, is a membership organization of glass artists working in Virginia. The exhibition offers a wide range of creative processes, including blown, carved, cast, painted, flame worked, fused, leaded, neon, sandblasted and stained glass. Related events will include the juror’s lecture, a mobile hot shop with glass working demonstrations and a silent auction. An internationally known figure from the world of glass art will select and present $3,750 in cash awards and scholarships. Fluid Variations: Recent Works in Glass by Clay McGlamory Fluid Variations is a solo exhibition of new works by Clay McGlamory in a variety of glass techniques, including vitreous enamel screenprinting, fusing, mixed media, luminous tubing and installation.  The imagery for these works comes from two sources: water in various states and forms, and words, primarily graffiti scratched into trees, translated from photographs taken during walks in the woods.  Both create alluring patterns that when layered have a beautiful complexity which is further compounded by the layering of colors and panels of glass during the fusing and printing processes.  Subtle transparent inks and layers of glass combine with dominant opaque color designs creating optically energized works that resonate with the viewer's optic nerves. 13 | Theatre IV: Beatrix Potter’s “The Tailor of Gloucester”

Theatre IV: Beatrix Potter’s “The Tailor of Gloucester” What a treat it is to discover a holiday classic by Beatrix Potter. When a poppycock mayor orders a cherry-colored coat for his Christmas wedding, the poor Tailor of Gloucester works his fingers to the bone. All goes well until the tailor realizes he lacks the piece of twisted silk needed to sew on the final button. He gives his last coin to Simpkin, his faithful pet cat, confident that he will set out into the snow to purchase the much-needed “twist.” But it is Christmas Eve, that one blessed night when animals are granted the gift of speech. And so, before story’s end, we hear not only from Simpkin, but also from all of the mice he has trapped beneath teacups for his holiday feast - well-dressed mice that have benefited for years from the tailor’s elegant scraps. Natural enemies become steadfast friends, and all work together to complete a coat that leaves the bedazzled Mayor - and Simpkin and his mice - speechless for a miraculously happy ending on Christmas Day. Performances at 11:00a.m. & 2:00p.m.

14 | It's a Wonderful Life: Live From WVL Radio Theatre

It's a Wonderful Life: Live From WVL Radio TheatreIt’s Christmas Eve in 1945, and only a handful of WVL Radio’s actors have braved the blizzard to perform that evening’s broadcast of It’s a Wonderful Life and keep the station afloat. This clever stage adaptation breathes new life into the poignant story of George Bailey and Bedford Falls. This 1940s “live broadcast” of Frank Capra’s beloved film takes us back to the Golden Age of Radio. This fresh new adaptation of the film is set in the fictional studio of WVL Radio Theatre on a cold, snowy winter night. Due to the blizzard, the professional voice actors are unable to get through, but the show must go on - so a small but intrepid band of employees manage to create the dozens of movie characters and scenes using just their voices and a sound effects table. This exquisitely detailed production is an uplifting story of struggle and triumph, and of the power of a community to weather financial storms. Audiences from Chicago to Miami have come to know and love this annual performance of It’s A Wonderful Life: Live From WVL Radio Theatre and we think you’ll love it, too.

17 | Vienna Boys Choir

Vienna Boys ChoirVienna Boys Choir - the name alone conjures images of majestic holiday celebrations held around the globe. This year, the sonic celebration takes place at The American Theatre. Come alone, or with the special people in your life, to experience the soaring voices and exquisite vocal discipline of the Vienna Boys Choir, in an evening sure to lift your spirits and provide a brief but glorious rest from the hustle and bustle of what we know as ‘the most wonderful time of the year’. The performance starts early - because the boys need to get to bed at a reasonable hour - but that makes the event perfect for students as well! Boys have been singing at the court in Vienna since the 14th century. In 1498, more than half a millennium ago, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I moved his court and his court musicians to Vienna. Until 1918, the choir sang exclusively for the imperial court, at mass, concerts and private functions, and on state occasions. Today there are approximately 100 choristers between the ages of ten and fourteen, divided into four touring choirs. The four choirs give around 300 concerts and performances each year in front of almost half a million people. Each group spends nine to eleven weeks of the school year on tour. They visit virtually all European countries, and they are frequent guests in Asia, Australia and the Americas.

20 | K’Bana Blaq

K’Bana BlaqIt’s a new generation of music. K’Bana Blaq music. Just imagine if Lady Gaga and Prince had a son, the result would probably be K’Bana Blaq. He’s fashion, he’s rock, he’s soul, he’s R&B, he’s hip hop, and he’s taking Virginia by storm. K’Bana’s not just an R&B, Hip Hop, or Rock artist…he is known in local indie circles as a phenom, with an incredible ability to comfortably blend sonically diverse genres of music. He can seamlessly take you from an edgy rock song to a beautiful ballad that will have you in tears. Most recently a winner of the 2014 Veer Magazine Music Awards in the category of Music Video, it is safe to say that when comes to K’bana Blaq, expect the unexpected.
